Visual aspects of teaching and learning math have received increasing attention in the past thirty years. The term “visualization” is used in numerous meanings in scientific literature. On the one hand, the process of visualization can be meant, on the other hand, that of visualization

Both the representation itself and the ability to see and change representations in the mind's eye is called visualization. Visualization can take place mentally, mentally before the inner eye, or “materially”, for example as a drawing on paper. A close connection is also seen between visualization and representation, which emphasizes the aspect that a representation stands for something else.
